Why aren’t you wearing a mask?
That I did not ask.
For fear, I would be attacked.
Just for stating a fact.
How can a year be summed up?
By the days and months?
By failures and successes?
I’m not sure.
Through many ups and downs,
more severe this year than others,
I feel I’ve had to reflect.
No longer can I ignore.
Isolation and loneliness.
Although I embraced it,
by wearing comfy clothes,
filling time with solo projects.
Anger and rage have filled the air.
Some for real injustice,
others for perceived.
But anger nonetheless.
People have been very tense
It’s understandable
But will a new calendar year
make it all better?
Are we our situation
or how we react to it?
Is it this year’s fault for the bad
or is it just revealing the weak?
Through these lows
I feel its time to rise
to appreciate more deeply
what I do have
to strive harder
to be a better
and more accepting person.
